Kerala achieved the highest literacy rate of 90.92% among the states in India . In which female literacy rate of 87.86% and a male literacy rate of 94.20%.

Child is the father of man and the formation of a man starts from the education which he receives from his parents and then from his teachers. So the schools form one of the main stage in the formation of a man.

Education and knowledge is the key thing which made the man different from other fellow living beings. Without knowledge a man cannot be a social animal. The levels in the society is also achieved by the knowledge a man that possess.

School, the house of education thus is the main vital part of a life. We can call it as the fourth main necessities of man, after the food, the shelter and the clothing. School Education in kerala

The aim is to provide maximum information on Kerala's education system and also to provide latest resources to education community, update the knowledge and also take all valuable suggestions to improve the quality of education and learning. Kerala education system is well versed and divided into Kerala Primary Education Kerala High School Education Kerala Secondary Education [+2] /Vocational Secondary Schools Kerala Higher Education Distance Education program in Kerala.

Kerala High School Education

Kerala High School education is a grade of education system from viii to x, usually for the age group of 14 to 16 and also an entry for higher education. These schools may be controlled by national boards like CBSE or state boards. There are 931 higher secondary schools (HSS) of which 417 are in government sector, 506 in aided sector and 8 in unaided sector. Approximately 5 Lakh students appeared for the SSLC examination –2007. Merit should be decided on the basis of grades.

+2 Schools

In 1997-98 pre-degree courses in 26 Government colleges have been de linked and higher secondary courses have been sanctioned in 103 government and management schools. Since 1998 new schools are added to the list. It is an entry for higher studies. New System of grading is introduced.

Vocational Secondary Schools

It was youngest branch introduced in Kerala at the higher secondary level (+2 stage) in 1983-84. The syllabus covers all the areas where people required training to start new jobs. More importance should be given to practical. There are 322 VHS School (231 Govt. & 91 Private) handling 814 schools of Vocational courses in 45 subjects. Subjects are related to agriculture (livestock management and fisheries), health and paramedical service, business and commerce, home science and humanities and service sectors in engineering and technology. Clothing and embroidery, cosmetology and management of beauty parlours, creche-pre-school management is courses exclusively for girls.

Enrolment of Girl Students

Kerala has achieved near-equality in school enrolment with regard to gender. Girl students outnumber boys the high school stage.Girl students in schools constituted 49.1% of all students.

Primary Education

Primary Education consists of 2 levels, lower primary (Std I - IV) and Upper Primary (std V to VII). This comprises the biggest segment of the states education system.Almost every village has more than five primary schools. There are 6,726 lower primary and 2,968 upper primary schools. Of the primary schools 61.07% are private aided, 2.98% are private unaided and 35.95% are government schools.

DPEP

A centrally sponsored scheme,DPEP is a major multi - facted programme seeking to overhand and reconstruct primary education as a whole in selected educationally backward districts. Its emphasis is on decentralized planning and management as well as community participation. The programme was introduced in the districts of Malappuram,Wayanad and Kasargod in December 1994.
